Smalltalk resources

Curiously during the last couple of days I have received several questions about books and tutorials about Smalltalk. If you are starting with Smalltalk I strongly recommend you to start with “Squeak By Example”, you can download a free .pdf copy from here.

If you need some in Spanish I recommend the book by Diego Goméz Deck, that is available here.

After you had understood the basic concepts I think that two mandatory books are the ones by Adele Goldberg: Smalltalk-80: The Language and its Implementation and Smalltalk-80, The Interactive Programming Environment.

Finally in this page you will get several links to free online books

Hope this help.

SmallTalk class

Last week, like every end of semester I gave a special introductory class about SmallTalk programming. This time I decided to modify the slidedeck to put more emphasis on the fact that in SmallTalk everything is an object. The slide deck is available for download here.

Enjoy it!

SmallTalks 2008

Last Thursday, Friday and Saturday, it took place the Second Argentine Conference of Smalltalk: SmallTalks 2008. One of most interesting tracks I attended was the one given by Mariano Martinez Peck, Esteban Lorenzano and German Palacios about their project: SqueakDBX. It is a driver to allow Squeak applications to connect to relational databases, you can get more information in the official website.

Congratulations to the organization team, it was great event!.
